Located at the top of the Central Plateau, Chapada dos Guimarães is impressive for its landscape composed of incredible red sandstone formations surrounded by rich Cerrado vegetation, palm swamps (veredas), and gallery forests. This land is home to several bird species. The massive cliffs are the preferred habitat for Red-and-green Macaws and Peach-fronted Parakeets, as well as Biscutate Swifts and several birds of prey, including the Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle, Crowned Eagle, and Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle. ​
